Powelliphanta traversi otakia
A subspecies of Powelliphanta traversi, large carnivorous land snails unique to New Zealand. The 'Otakia' subspecies survives in three tiny remnant patches of lowland forest around Otaki, north of Wellington. With fewer than 250 adults alive today, it is ranked as nationally critical, as rare as the kakapo!
